Breakaway products shatter realistically and sometimes it's difficult to tell the real from the fake. There are hundreds of products available to order: glassware/bottles/mugs/jugs/jam jars/crockery/plate glass/ashtrays, you name it - anything that can be smashed can be replicated. Please call us if you would like to discuss an item.
Labels are NOT supplied separately, but we can take special orders for bottles that come fully dressed (see photo above)Can I put liquid, flowers, etc into the breakaways?
Most of the glass & china items will hold clear or coloured water, although this does need to be done carefully and there are some points to be aware of:
Only use clear or coloured water made from food colouring. Real alcohol or fruit juices can have a solvent effect on certain items if left for a period of time.
Make sure both the item & the water are at room temperature. Decant the water into a container and leave to acclimatise on set for an hour or so before using. Never fill breakaway items directly from a tap.
The liquid should be put into the item as close as possible to its use on set, preferably moments before it gets broken, as a filled breakaway item is far more likely to get accidentally broken. Items should never be filled in advance and transported to the location.
The item should be lent over to one side and water should be poured down the inside, slowly uprighting the item as it fills. Just like you'd expect a decent pint of Guinness to be served. About 1"-2" of water (50mm max) in the bottom will usually suffice for most applications and the more water you use, the less of a splash you will get because of the weight of the liquid.
We cannot accept liability for bottles arriving damaged and they are sent at your risk. Breakaways are specially packaged to help ensure that they are delivered intact99.2% of orders to our UK customers have arrived safely so far!
