Plastic gobo technology has been evolving since Rosco introduced the iPro Projector™ iPro Slide and iPro Slide Film. Today, LED ellipsoidals are increasingly used as image projectors in stage or event lighting designs. Because many of these fixtures generate significantly less heat than traditional tungsten profile spots, it is more appropriate than ever to use low-cost gobos that are printed on a plastic base. Plastic gobos are an excellent solution for short term projections in many LED luminaires.
Cool Ink plastic gobos were developed by Rosco specifically for use in cool-running LED projectors. They use the same transparency material and similar production techniques as an iPro Slide. These materials and techniques, in continuous use since 2000, have been thoroughly tested by hundreds of users. The Cool Ink plastic film provides superior ink absorption resulting in superior image resolution over traditional transparency films. Cool Ink gobos have a light-weight, rigid plastic rim that secures the plastic image. This technique, similar to that used and tested in the iPro process, not only protects the gobo, but it also helps keep the plastic from warping and your image from distorting. Any standard steel or glass gobo in the Rosco catalog is available as a low-cost Cool Ink gobo for use in LED ellipsoidals. Custom gobos are also available and are produced within one day of order-receipt.
Cool Ink HD gobos add a proprietary masking process to the printed plastic gobo and sandwich them between two layers of heat deflecting glass. This process improves the plastic gobo's ability to resist heat and image distortion due to warping caused by heat - plus the glass allows users to clean fingerprints and other smudges off of their projection. The Cool Ink HD imaging process offers a higher resolution for short term applications, particularly for color or grey scale images, and is especially recommended for artwork that has a black background. Cool Ink HD gobos ship two days after receiving a completed order - including final artwork and a PO from a Rosco Dealer. Cool Ink or Cool Ink HD gobos can be made using any existing iPro Slide design or Rosco Glass Gobo design. User-submitted artwork can also be turned into custom Cool Ink gobos. Cool Ink HD gobos are specially recommended for artwork with a black background. These gobos are created using a process that incorporates an extra layer of opaque black for increased image resolution.

How colors print out, project and the lifespan for use of the plastic are subject to the artwork, fixture and LED lamps involved, as well as environmental conditions. Ink printing may make subtle changes to color rendering. As with all gobo projections, some changes of color images once the gobo is projected within the LED units may occur and are to be considered a feature of the fixture rather than the gobo. Color temperatures of lamps and other unit-specific features may affect the projection. Plastic gobos are not returnable and will not be credited for any reason other than a manufacturing error.
